Earth Resource Science and Technology 2nd International Symposium: Novel Carbon Resource Sciences

We are delighted to announce that the 2nd International Symposium on Novel Carbon Resouce Sciences: Earth Resource Science and Technology will be held from 10-11 March 2009 in Faculty of Mining and Petroleum Engineering ITB, Indonesia. This is joint symposium between ITB and Kyushu Ubiversity, mainly presenting the most current sciences and technologies from universities under COE Kyushu University program, which are: Kyushu University, Japan; Institut Teknologi Bandung, Indonesia; Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China; and Korea Institute of Energy Research, South Korea.

The Symposium focuses on effective resource management, safety and environmental studies, material utilization and product development from coal, in order to develop a new clean technology for the utilization of coal, including clean and efficient conversion methods of resources into energy and chemical materials.

The 37th International Forestry Students’ Symposium (IFSS) 2009

International Forestry Students' Association (IFSA) as a global network for international students forestry aims enrich students' knowledge of forestry through formal education and increase international cooperation and networking among members as well as professional institutions.

IFSA Local Committee: Bogor Agricultural University (IFSA LC-IPB) and the University of Gadjahmada (IFSA LC-UGM), will be the the committee of 37th International Forestry Students' Symposium (IFSS) in 2009 with the theme of Forest Conservation: Balancing Utilization, Protection and preservation, in the 26 August - 9 September 2009. IFSA annual symposium is a follow-up from the previous symposium, the symposium has been held in various countries in the world. One hundred fifty participants from 64 local Committee of the estimated 48 countries will attend the IFSS this time.

This symposium will discuss issues of global forestry is now facing charges in the sustainable development of forests. The issues will be discussed in several different topics, including forestry policy, ekowisata, the incentive scheme for local communities around the forest, carbon trading, education and forestry. On this occasion will are also representatives from government, academia, NGOs, researchers, and other stakeholders. The 37th IFSS 2009 is expected to be one of the long-term business that terintregasi to maintain sustainable forests, especially tropical forests.

Marine Science and Technology Training Course (MST) 2009

BACKGROUND
Marine Science and Technology Training Course (MST) is a special training program for senior undergraduate students, graduate students or junior scientist/researchers, who want to improve their knowledge as well as skills in the field of marine sciences. MST is carried out by the cooperation between Bogor Agricultural University (IPB) and German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) since year 2001 and keep improving until now (2008). This international training program is held annually at the Department of Marine Science and Technology, Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science (ITK-FPIK-IPB).

MST GOALS
To train Indonesian students and junior scientists / researchers in marine science and technology by employing an international training standard
To better prepare the students / junior scientists for the graduate or advance study or research in the field of marine science and technology

MST 2008
In the MST 2008, the participants had 51 days of lectures and 5 practical works in laboratory and 3 field works. At the end of the course, each participant should make a seminar presentation and a scientific proposal. The course comprised various topics, given by 33 lecturers/researchers from IPB, LIPI, COREMAPP/UNHAS, UNESCO Jakarta and a guest lecturer from Germany. The course was divided into 18 modules, i.e:
Oceanography; Marine Microbiology; Marine Plankton; Acoustic Instrumentation & Remote Sensing; Marine Nekton; Ichthyoplankton; Mariculture; Benthos Ecology; Scientific Writing & Communicating; Sampling Strategy in the Deep Sea; Marine Biotechnology; Marine Pollution; Fish Processing Technology; Capture Fisheries; Stock Assessment; Tropical Ecology; Integrated Coastal Zone Management; Coral Assessment & Public Awareness

This year, MST has brought up 18 successful students. That means, MST already have 108 alumnus so far.

Workshop: Improving the Quality Management Improving the High School Management Quality, School-Based Excellence

Purpose
1. The founding of awareness in the improvement of the quality of schools, which Originally in the understanding of the problems with education in the high school level, and government policies in the development of education.
2. Finding inspiration for improving the quality of school management to the winning schools
3. The growing power of motivation and adaptation in the face of changes

Competency
1. Participants know the government policy in the development of secondary education and empowerment in the development of high school centered on the population
2. Participants have the motivation in the development of soft skills in high school-based Total Quality Management
3. Participants were able to take leadership in the professional development of school-based Information Technology
4. Participants have the competency standards and Head can implement School Curriculum Education Unit (KTSP) for high school
5. Participants were able to implement internal management and to build networking (network) School
